Since April 20, fast-moving wildfires have spread across Southern Georgia and Northern Florida. They have been strengthened and fueled by extreme drought, high winds, and dry conditions. A state of emergency has now been declared across 91 counties in Georgia, with some of the hardest-hit areas including Brantley, Clinch, and Atkinson Counties.
The Pineland Road Fire has grown to more than 31,000 acres and remains only about 10% contained, while the Highway 82 Fire has destroyed homes and forced families to evacuate with little notice. Across North Florida, more than 130 active wildfires continue to burn, making this one of the most severe fire seasons in years.

Emerge Ministries is answering the call and mobilizing in response. Chaplain Gregory Brooks, who leads our Chaplain Response Team, is conducting ground recon, assessing needs, and helping determine how we can best serve. We also have chaplains already in the region, some of whom are being directly affected by these fires, while continuing to stand ready to care for others in their communities.
We are asking all Emerge Chaplains to be aware: through our advance team’s assessment, there may be an opportunity to be part of a response effort. Please watch for updates as more information is shared.
Please join us in prayer. Prayer for protection over those still in harm’s way, for peace and healing for families who have lost homes and stability, for strength and endurance for first responders, and for our chaplains on the ground, both serving and impacted.
